A ferrofluid is a liquid that contains very small ferromagnetic particles (magnetite). These particles are only a few nanometres (0.000001 mm) in size. This makes the liquid highly sensitive to magnetic fields:
as soon as a strong magnet is brought close to the ferrofluid, countless pointed spikes form. With a little skill and patience, fascinating sculptures can be created.
