The CMA wireless energy sensor is a sensor for measuring electrical power and energy in DC circuits. The energy sensor has separate source and load connections to monitor both the voltage of a power source and the current to a load. Based on these values, the sensor calculates the instantaneous power (W) and the accumulated energy (J) over time. The source and load connections are suitable for standard and safety 4 mm plugs. The sensor comes with four cables with 4 mm plugs at one end and crocodile clips at the other.
The energy sensor is equipped with an OLED colour display that shows sensor information and the measured values. This makes the sensor suitable for use as a stand-alone measuring instrument.
This wireless energy sensor can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth or wired via USB with the Coach 7 or Coach 7 lite programmes/apps on computers (Windows and Mac), Chromebooks and mobile devices (Android and iOS).
Ideal sensor for measuring renewable energy sources.
Technical specifications:
-Measuring ranges: 0 .. 36 V / 0 .. 1 A / 0 .. 36 W / 0 .. 6000 J
-Resolution: 1.25 mV / 1.25 mA / 10 mW / 0.1 J
-Warranty: 36 months
-OLED display: 0.96" 128 x 64px
-Maximum sample frequency: 5 Hz
-Battery life: 6 hours when fully charged (rechargeable)
-Connection: Bluetooth 5, Low Energy (Mac, Android, iOS) Bluetooth 2.1, Classic (Windows) or USB-C 2.0
-All sensor specifications can be found in the Manual, see Downloads.
Suggestions for physics and NLT practicals:
-Investigate how different loads (e.g. resistors with different values, motors or lamps) affect power consumption
-Compare the energy consumption of a solar panel under different lighting conditions
-Monitor how the voltage, current and energy consumption of a battery change as it powers a device
-If you have a small model wind turbine, measure how much electrical energy it generates at different wind speeds
-Use the sensor to measure the efficiency of simple circuits by calculating the input versus output energy
