The apparatus enables investigation of free and forced vibration of a simply supported beam, including natural frequency, resonance, amplitude of vibration, and phase lag.
A flexible beam is mounted between two simply supported end brackets, one allowing rotation only and the other allowing both rotation and rolling. The rolling bracket sits on adjustable vertical supports to suit different beam lengths; these supports and a standard beam are included.
Vibration is induced by a motor exciter that can be positioned anywhere along the beam. Its mass can be increased with supplied calibrated weights, which may also be placed elsewhere on the beam. A damping tub, damping medium and discs are provided for adjustable damping.
